Interested in Interning?
We offer year round unpaid internships, which are available to dedicated, mature individuals seeking to broaden their knowledge of therapeutic horsemanship, nonprofit business administration, equine studies, volunteer management, and more.
For consideration, please download, fill out, and mail or return our internship application (the internship packet is available for download at the bottom of this page), your resume, internship requirements, a cover letter, and contact information to:
Albany Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc.
6640 Fuller Station Road, Altamont, NY 12009
Interns would be required to come on a regular schedule as determined by the staff at ATRC and to complete assignments/goals as agreed upon. In addition to helping with lessons or to prepare horses for lessons (such as those needing hours for therapeutic horsemanship certifications), interns will be expected to periodically assist with barn chores such as feeding, watering, and stall maintenance.
Interns seeking to gain experience in marketing, fundraising, or business administration may also submit proposals, and may be assigned special projects as approved by the staff and the Board of Advisors. If seeking credits, please provide full information so that we might determine how we might best work together.
Participation in internships is at your own risk. Safety is a priority. Persons exhibiting disruptive or dangerous behavior or not following safety rules will be dismissed. Proper barn attire and closed toed shoes/boots must be worn at all times.

Talia is a first year medical student at Albany Medical College. She has been in the area for a while for undergrad and then medical school- she also went to Union College in Schenectady, although is originally from New Jersey. Talia heard about our program through the Service Learning Program through Albany Medical College and wanted to get involved through a Summer Internship with the college! Allison recently graduated from SUNY Albany with a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and Child Development. After attending ATRC's volunteer training in the Spring of 2019, Allie reached out to us expressing interest in becoming a Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor through the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International and wanted our help! After getting involved in more lessons and starting the certification process, we asked Allie to come on board as an intern to help her reach her instructor goals and collect the number of required teaching hours she needs for certification. When she's not at the barn Allie enjoys to running, hiking, going to the beach, and reading. |
