Empowering Riders Through Every Step of the Journey

At Albany Therapeutic Riding Center, every program begins with the individual.

We offer customized therapeutic riding services for children and adults, designed to support a wide range of physical, cognitive, emotional, and social goals. Each rider comes to us with their own story, strengths, and needs. Our role is to meet them where they are and help them move forward with confidence.

A Personalized Approach to Progress

No two riders are the same, and neither are their goals.

Each participant receives an individualized riding plan tailored to their needs. These plans are regularly reviewed and adjusted as skills develop and new goals emerge. Whether focusing on balance and coordination, communication, focus, or confidence, our programs are designed to support meaningful, measurable progress.

Mounted and unmounted activities may include riding in English and Western disciplines, grooming, groundwork, and overall horse care. Every element is intentional, helping riders build skills both in and out of the saddle.

Lessons are typically 30 minutes to one hour and are offered six days a week. Sessions may be private or small group and are thoughtfully planned by our Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructors.

Why Therapeutic Riding Works

The movement of a horse closely mirrors the natural human gait. For many riders, this creates opportunities to engage muscles and build strength in ways that may not otherwise be accessible.

Beyond the physical benefits, time spent with horses can support emotional regulation, reduce stress, and create a sense of connection and accomplishment. Just as importantly, it offers access to a welcoming, inclusive community centered around growth and possibility.

Who We Serve

Our riders represent a wide range of experiences. We use person-first language and focus on each individual’s abilities, not limitations.

We welcome riders ages 4 and older, including adults and seniors, as well as individuals in residential programs. We are proud to be a veteran-friendly organization and welcome disabled veterans to participate in lessons or volunteer opportunities.
