Our Roots!
Albany Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc. was founded on Martin Road in Voorheesville at the foot of the Helderberg Escarpment! The program ran from this property for almost 40 years under Chris Lehman. In July of 2018, Taylor Huntley became Executive Director and Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor and ran ATRC from the property for a while longer.
Our Martin Road property held loads of memories for our staff, volunteers, and participants. There were a few small, aged structures with stalls, sheds, storage, and an office space. In it's past with Chris, many types of animals found refuge and a peaceful life there. Many of our current staff, volunteers, and participants remember the Martin Road property fondly for the colony of cats that lived there, the gorgeous views, and the horse friends we met and lost along the way. It was an aged and small location that ATRC was quickly able to outgrow, and due other circumstances ATRC began the process of relocating.

ATRC Storage Barn Fire
,On the 7th of November 2024, Albany Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc. experienced a fire at in our hay and storage barn that turned the building and everything within it into a total loss. Staff and volunteers were swift to notice and take action by calling 911, moving horses and humans to safety, and informing ATRC staff, friends, and family. We are all still incredibly grateful that no animals or humans were harmed, and we are incredibly grateful to the 7 different local fire departments and numerous of other first responders who responded to our fire that night. Thanks to them, the flames were contained to the storage barn and no animals or humans were harmed.
We've been extremely thankful for any and all donations that have come to us since. Much of what we lost has been replaced by donations from family and participants, to generous companies like Tractor Supply Co., Home Depot, Altamont Country Values, and more. However, the building held 4 spacious stalls, the power to our pastures, and our hay storage.
Since then, we have been steadily making progress towards building a new shed for hay storage, a 4 stall extension on our main barn, and a smaller covered arena in place of the old storage barn.

While it's been a few months since the fire, we are continuing to seek and accept donations for our fire recovery efforts. We have hopes to start fundraising for building costs soon and will be sure to give updates as they come!
