With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our founder and president, Christine D. Lehman. Chris was the driving force behind ATRC, her tireless energy devoted to the singular purpose of serving others. Please find her obituary below. The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Albany Therapeutic Riding Center. Please remember Chris who touched many lives and help to sustain her legacy:
VOORHEESVILLE Christine D. Lehman, 71, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at Albany Medical Center after a long illness. Born in Norman, Okla. to Stuart and Thelma Lundberg Lehman while they were stationed with the U.S. Navy. Afterwards, the family returned to Albany. Christine graduated from Albany High School and earned an associate's degree from S.U.N.Y. Delhi. She was employed by Colonie Animal Hospital and later served as a lab technician at Columbia-Greene Community College, until she retired. She was the founder and driving force of the Albany Therapeutic Riding Center, where she was the president and riding instructor for 35 years. Chris was passionate about animals. She exhibited prize-winning poultry at the Altamont Fair and other poultry shows. She also exhibited prize-winning sheep and worked with the 4-H to mentor young fair exhibitors. Animals of many kinds found a refuge at her farm. Christine is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Stuart and Ruth Lehman of Albany; also by her close friends, Jennifer Hamilton and Dawn Haas. She was predeceased by her parents, Stuart and Thelma Lehman. Family and friends wish to say a very special "Thank You" to the wonderful staff at Albany Medical Center for all of their compassionate care during Christine's stay. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 4 p.m., all at Tebbutt & Frederick Memorial Home, 633 Central Ave., Albany. A brief graveside service will take place in Memory Gardens Cemetery on Monday at 10 a.m. with the funeral procession departing the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Christine's memory to The Albany Therapeutic Riding Center, 182 Martin Road Ext., Voorheesville, NY 12186. Announcing a new way to help ATRC: We are now a community cash partner for CLYNK, a bottle and can recycling program available through Hannaford Supermarkets. If you have signed up for CLYNK at www.clynk.com and received specially tagged bags in which to put bottles and cans, when you drop them off at a participating Hannaford store, the money is credited to your account. You can then go on clynk.com, click on community cash partners, type Albany Therapeutic Riding Center in the search box and click on the "donate" button. This will enable you to make a donation to our account. We also have bags specifically tagged for ATRC that we will give out to our supporters at various events (lessons, volunteer events, board meetings, community events, etc) - all you have to do is put your deposit bottles and cans within and drop off at a participating Hannaford store and the money will be credited to our account. We hope that either way you use CLYNK (our bags or yours), you will know how very much we appreciate your support!
We have two very big needs right now: volunteers and donations. We are powered by both. Volunteers receive training and can be age 14+. We need lesson volunteers who serve as side and lead walkers as we cannot hold lessons without these important people. We also need stablehand volunteers for feeding/watering/mucking. Additionally, we are 100 percent funded by donations - that means hay, feed, utilities, repairs, equipment, blacksmithing, and other operating expenses. Our only paid person is a part-time stablehand. Other than that, we run on the love of our volunteers. Can you help with a donation at this time? There are several ways to donate including mailing a check or cash to ATRC 182 Martin Rd Extension Voorheesville, NY 12186 or online to www.gofundme.com/atrc123. You can also sign up for Amazon Smile using our special link below so that every purchase counts toward funding ATRC (we get $5 for every $1,000 people collectively purchase) or by buying a Bravelet bracelet also from a link below. Every bit helps. If you are part of a church/synagogue group, youth group, or the like who does fundraising for not for profits, we would love to be on your list as a beneficiary and are so grateful for your consideration. If your company has a foundation or matching gifts program, please remember us. Thank you for your consideration. Please like our Facebook page at "Friends of Albany Therapeutic Riding Center". We cannot do what we have done for 35 years without you!!!
Bravelets are bracelets, watches, charms and scarves where your purchase gives $10 to help ATRC! Shop here or create your own - many colors to match your outfits - thank you for your support:
We recognize that you have many organizations to which to choose to donate and we appreciate those who choose to support us.
